2003 Work & Travel: I

A wholly fictitious account of an adventurous summer in Ocean City, NJ

June 11th

I had lunch at my dad’s canteen– chicken breast fillet with a slice of peach, a slice of ham, a slice of cheese, some vegetables, and potatoes. Then I went to the railway station and ironically missed the train that’s always late.

So I headed off to a ForEx place to get more bucks for my bang korunas. It’s certainly chaper there than at a bank. Or at the airport.

Tough luck. The exchange place was out of buck$. Guess I must have bought out their monthly supplies yesterday. Bugger. I had to go to a regular bank and get a lot less bang for my buck koruna.

Suddenly I got a call from the travel agency:

Hi?”
“Hi. Your visa’s ready. Where are you?”

Oh, my visa, finally they got back to me! What a stupid question, Where are you? Surely they couldn’t think I had already left the country, without the passport. I caught the very next train couple hours later for a nigh-three-hour ride to the capital.

I arrived in Bratislava into a sweltering heat. God, I must have downed not less than three liters of water in about six hours as I navigated my way to the travel agency to pick up the visa. And the flight ticket.

Yay!

That means we’re going to… New York Schwechat (that’s the moniker for Vienna International Airport).

2003/06/11 23:00 UTC+2 Still in Bratislava. Nothing newsworthy yet.
