Babia hora, or Old hag’s mountain, is the tallest mountain in Slovakia save for the peaks of both Tatra ranges, measuring over 1,700 meters. As it appears with its unmistakably dull, stocky, bulky shape, it is both inconspicuous from afar and dominating up close.

The name Babia hora refers to the word baba which used to denote an old hag; or an old lady in general. Nowadays it can also mean chick or girlfriend in slang usage.

This mountain is located in Orava region, on the northern border with Poland. It is famus for having the greatest snowfall in all Slovakia; up to 2 to 3 meters in some winters.
